Hyde Park Chapel Virtual Tour

In a 1955 priesthood blessing, Latter-day Saint Church Leader David O. McKay said, “There is a great need particularly in the great city of London for a chapel, a church edifice that will be a credit to the Church, that will accommodate those who are now seeking the truth and about to join the Church, a place of worship that will indeed become an international gathering place for the Lord’s people.” About a year later, Mission President Clifton G. M. Kerr came across a “Bombsite” from the war that was recently listed as “for sale” in the midst of an area of Universities, Museums and Performing Halls within a mile of Buckingham Palace. Through some divine intervention, the site was acquired and zoning approved.

Today, a four-story Church and office building sits here amidst a flurry of passers-by. Three Wards meet here each week. The headquarters for the London Mission are also housed here. An inviting Bertel Thorvaldsen sculpture of the Christus beckons visitors to the informative first floor Visitors Centre where descriptive displays explain various aspects of this faith, including the central focus of it’s worship. London diplomats are invited to attend activites here from time to time. Books of Mormon can here be obtained free of charge in a variety of languages.
