Scotland Virtual Tour

The first baptisms in Scotland were performed on January 14, 1840 at high tide in the River Clyde near Bishopton by Samuel Mulliner. The converted baptismal cantidates were Alexander and Jesse Hay who had first discovered the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ through a friend, James Lea. Once he was able to kick the influence of Small Pox, Brother Mulliner’s missionary companion, Alexander Wright joined him. They spent the majority of their time in teaching in the Paisley area.

When Elder Orson Pratt joined them months later, he climbed to the top of the Edinburgh hilltop named Arthur’s Seat and dedicated Scotland for the preaching of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. While there, he also poured out his soul to God, pleading for 200 baptisms to accompany his efforts there in Edinburgh. He received many more than 200. By 1850, the Church had grown to over 3,000 members in more than 50 branches in Scotland.
